I'm looking forward to the weekend.  Tonight I'm seeing Mutemath and enjoying gin and tonics with Joanna.  Maybe I'll see some folks that I know.  (Brew, I'm sad about missing the party but we bought tix long ago. Have a blast!)

Hopefully, I'm hooking up with one of my oldest friends, B, on Saturday morning.  Catching up is always hours at a time for us.

Halloween party tomorrow night.  I bought a blond Tina-Turner-type wig and a cheesy work out outfit complete with long socks and sweat bands for my head and wrists.  Roy is dressing up as Richard Simmons and I will be Sweatin' to the Oldies with him, Renata and Matt.  Should be fun!  I'll try to post pics.

I started reading Three Cups of Tea this week.  I love it.

The gist:  an American climber, Greg Mortenson, set off to summit K2 but in order to survive the descent back down the mountain he could not finish the last 600 meters.  On his disappointing desperate descent he lost the trail and stumbled upon an untouched village called Korph.  He was surrounded and welcomed by swarms of children and taken to the chief's home for care.  They gave him all that they had and nursed him back with teas and warm blankets.  In return of the love they gave, Greg is spending his life to better their circumstances in any way he can.  He promised to return to build a school for the children.  It's a story about delivering on that promise and the adventures that ensue.  Today there are 55 schools.  That's love.

"Here (in Pakistan and Afghanistan), we drink three cups of tea to do business; the first you are a stranger, the second you become a friend, and the third, you join our family, and for our family we are prepared to do anything - even die."  - Haji Ali, Korph Village Chief, Karakoram Mountains, Pakistan.

I want to love like that.

My boss is out of town all week.  It's going to be an easy, but very slow week.  Its kind of crazy that I'll get paid to sit around and wait for phone calls to come in and monitor email accounts.

Since I will primarily be surfing the web this week, I decided to start here.   It's a fun visual way to pick up on your world news.

Here are some of my favorite photos from my trip to Quebec City.  It was beautiful and the weather was perfect.  We had such a good time and can't stand that we're back in the 90's and indexes in the 100's!  It's so hot in Houston right now!

Funny side note...I have total vertigo right now.  I feel like I'm floating on a boat.  At first I thought it was "sea legs" after our boat tour, but now it seems to have gotten worse.  I think it's an ear infection...which is a bummer, but I do feel kind of high or like I'm buzzing really hard on margaritas.  Once I start walking into walls I'll really get concerned

I'm off to Quebec City tomorrow morning!  Matt won a big award at work and a weekend away.  I'm fortunate enough to tag along for the ride.  I'll take lots of pictures to share and try not to tick off too many "frenchmen" in the process.

I checked out L'Affaire audio book from the library and I plan on getting into My Life in France too.

  • My birthday was in March.  Sometimes, birthdays keep giving even months down the road.  I have had such a birthday this year.  I was given a ticket to see one of my favorite artists, Patty Griffin, in Gruene, Texas (pronounced Green).  It ended up being a splendid day that I was able to share with three beautiful ladies and one of their spectacular musical musings.

I think that there were 27 rooms to rent in the mansion.
It didn't look that big from the outside.

Lauren was ecstatic that we just strolled on into the hall, sat down and enjoyed 5 complete songs of her favorite artist.  Practically a personal concert.

We enjoyed dinner at The Gristmill which the overlooks the Guadalupe River.  It was an old cotton gin in 1922, but now all that's left is a 3 story boiler room that now houses the restaurant.

What a day.  We started the road trip at noon and wrapped up about 1:45 a.m.  Thank you Joanna and Lauren for bringing me back safe and sound while I crashed in the back seat with a smile on my face!

I know I've been writing a lot about music lately...but....

Yahoo posted a fun 90's music pop culture quiz recently.
I took the quiz and loved reminiscing about the music that I was into at that time.
It brings back tons of memories that I long thought were forgotten as well as lyrics!
Oh, the archives of my brain...

CDs or Cassettes that I wore out in that decade:
    Paul's Boutique, Beastie Boys
    Bloodsugarsexmagic, Red Hot Chili Peppers
    Debut, Bjork
    Reality Bites Soundtrack
    Odelay, Beck
    The Bends, Radiohead
    The Score, The Fugees
    The Singles Soundtrack
    Fumbling Towards Ecstacy, Sarah McLachlin
    Achtung Baby, U2
    Smells Like Teen Spirit, Nirvana
    Ten, Pearl Jam
Under The Table and Still Dreaming, Dave Matthews Band
August and Everything After, The Counting Crows

    Other songs I sang to:
    More Than Words, Extreme
    Brick, Ben Folds Five
    Spin Spin Sugar, Sneakerpimps
What's Going On, 4 Non Blondes
    Unbelievable, EMF
    Conneceted, Stereo MCs
    Tennesse, Arrested Development
To Be With You, Mr Big
Always Be My Baby, Mariah Carey
    Boombastic, Shaggy
    Epic, Faith No More

What's your level of 90's music pop culture awareness?
I am Gifted. I screwed up on all the hip hop questions.
(there's probably a good reason for that.)
QUIZ your own 90's music knowledge!

This video cracked me up this Monday.  I'm pretty sure this is exactly what happens at my house while I'm at work all day.  Classic weimaraner moment.

Every day I come home to pillows squished into couch cushions or thrown carelessly on the floor.  Blankets are jumbled up on the couch and warm to the touch.  hmmm...someone's been sleeping on my couch!
